Report: Qualcomm plans Arm server chip return with Nuvia acquisition, gets early interest from Amazon (DCD)より。
QualcommがArm chipでクラウドデータセンター市場に再チャレンジしようとしている。その経緯は以下。
- 2017年 Centriq 2400でデータセンター市場参入を表明
- 2018年 Centriq を市場から撤退。Arm開発チームをレイオフ。同チームはMicrosoftに移り、Arm CPUを開発中。
- 2019年 データセンター市場にAI推論 chip Cloud AI 100で再参入を表明
- 2021年 Arm CpuスタートアップのNuviaを$1.4Bで買収
- 2022年 NuviaによるArm チップの採用についてAmazonと交渉中との報道
